abstract PURPOSE: To provide novel metallo canes that are useful as catalyst for olefin polymn. and yield polyolefin having high isotacticity, a narrow mol.wt. distribution and a high mol.wt. by combining the compd. with aluminoxane of a co- catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The compd. of formula I (M 1 is a metal of group IV6, group V6, etc.; R 1 , R 2 are each H, a 1 to 10C alkyl, etc.; R 3 , R 4 are each H, a halogen, etc.; R 5 , R 6 are R 3 exclusive of H; R 7 is -O-, =SO 2 , etc.; R 8 , R 9 are each H, a 6 to 10C aryl, etc.; m, n are 0 to 2, m+n is 0 to 2); for example, rac- dimethylsilyl-(2-methyl-1-indenyl) 2 -zirconium-dichloride. The compd. of the formula I is obtd. by bringing the compd. of formula II (M 3 is an alkaline metal, more adequately Li) into reaction with the compd. of the formula M 1 X 4 (X is halogen, more adequately Cl) preferably for 1 to 4 hours at -40 to 10°C in an anhydrous solvent, such as dichloromethane, in a protective gaseous atmosphere. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
