titleOfInvention Production of pentafluoroethane
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound in high yield, by reducing chloropentafluoroethane with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrocarbon or a halogenated hydrocarbon by using a reducing catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: In reducing chloropentafluoroethane with hydrogen in the presence of a reducing catalyst, the reaction is carried out in the presence of at least one of a hydrocarbon and a halogenated hydrocarbon. A compound having ≥about 3kcal/mol latent heat of evaporation, especially ethane, 1-chloro-1,1- difluoroethane or dichlorodifluoromethane may be cited as the compound to exist in the reaction. The amount of the compound to exist is preferably 0.01-5, based on 1-chloropentafluoroethane. The reaction temperature is preferably 100-350°C. Chloropentafluoroethane is preferable as a fluorocarbon 115 substitute. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
