abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a curable composition which can give a cured product excellent in transparency, mechanical strengths, environmental resistance and optical properties and an optical fiber having a clad excellent in all of the above prooperties. n CONSTITUTION: A curable composition is prepared by mixing 75.5 pts.wt. mixture, prepared by mixing a monomer of the formula: CH 2 =CHCOOCH 2 CH 2 C 8 F 17 with a monomer of the formula: CH 2 =CHCOOCH 2 (CF 2 CF 2 )H in a weight ratio of 90:10, with 24 pts.wt. trimethylolpropane triacrylate, 1.4 pts.wt. γ- mercaptoprophltrimethoxysilane and 0.5 pts.wt. photo-initiator. A cured product of this composition excels in transparency, mechanical strengths, environmental resistance and optical properties. An optical fiber excellent in all of the above properties can be obtained by coating an optical fiber core with this composition and irradiating the composition with ultraviolet rays. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
