titleOfInvention Composition and method for controlling cholesterol
abstract PURPOSE: To provide a polymer comprising repeating units each having a specified side chain, which isolates bile acid in the alimentary canal to prevent the bite acid from being reabsorbed by the blood stream and to control blood cholesterol. n CONSTITUTION: There is provided a polymer composition containing a polymer having units of formula I. This is nontoxic, has a polymer molecule size distribution in which the mode is about 80,000 Dalton or above and contains 0 to about 0.5% crosslinkages. In formula I, A is independently selected among an oxyalkyl -(CHR 4 ) b -0-, a thioalkyl (CHR 5 ) c -S- and an aminoalkyl -(CHR 6 ) d -NR 7 -, wherein the alkyl is bonded to the amidic nitrogen, a is an integer of 0 to about 19, b, c and d are independently integers of 1 to about 10; R 1 is hydrogen or a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; R 2 and R 7 are independently hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group or a hetero-atom-containing hydrocarbon group; R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are independently hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group or a hetero-atom-containing hydrocarbon group; and R 3 is formula II or III (e is 1-6; and R 8 , R 9 and R 10 are the same as groups which R 2 to R 7 mean). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
