abstract PURPOSE: To ensure hard gradation of a highlight part and to suppress the rise of min. density even after the lapse of time by incorporating a specified compd. into a silver halide emulsion layer or a hydrophilic colloidal layer. n CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I is incorporated into a silver halide emulsion layer or a hydrophilic colloidal layer. In the formula I, each of R 1 and R 2 is H or a group releasing OH when bond to O is cleaved at the time of development, R 3 is alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl, a heterocyclic group or amino, each of R 4 and R 5 is a group substitutable on the corresponding benzene ring, m is 0 or an integer of 1-4, n is 0 or an integer of 1-3, L is a divalent combining group, p is 0 or an integer of 1-3, and in the case of p≥2, m≥2 and n≥2, L's, R 4 's or R 5 's may be different from each other.
