abstract PURPOSE: To provide a new fluorine-containing carboxylic acid derivative useful as a reactive raw material for imparting multi-functionality such as excellent water and oil repellency and sliding property to various natural and synthetic polymers and as a fluorine-containing surfactant, etc. n CONSTITUTION: The fluorine-containing carboxylic acid derivative of formula I (n is 2-31; m is 3-62; R is 1-22C alkylene; Q is hydroxy, halogen or 1-22C alkoxy), e.g. the compound of formula II. The compound of formula I wherein Q is OH can be produced by reacting a fluorine-containing alcohol of formula III with an ω-halogeno-fatty acid ester of formula IV (X is halogen; R' is alkyl) in the presence of a compound such as Na, Ca or CaH 2 in a polar aprotic solvent and a tertiary alcohol and hydrolyzing the produced fluorine-containing carboxylic acid ester of formula V. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
