titleOfInvention Production of ketone
abstract PURPOSE: To produce ketones under mild condition in one step reaction by using a low-toxic and easily producible ruthenium complex as a catalyst and reacting an easily available alkyl hydroperoxide with an alkane. n CONSTITUTION: A 1-5C branched or cyclic alkane (e.g. 2,2-dimethylbutane, cyclopentane or norbornane) is made to react with a hydroperoxide compound of formula [R is lower alkyl; R' is (halogen or nitro-substituted) phenyl or alkyl] in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst [e.g. dichlorotris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium] to obtain the corresponding ketone (e.g. cyclooctanone and cyclohexanone). The ketone is an important basic raw material for the production of various chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, perfumes and dyes. The above process is advantageous from industrial viewpoint. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
