PURPOSE: To provide a novel dichlorocyano compound employed as a liquid crystal electrooptical element, capable of being driven at a low voltage, having excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal materials or non-liquid crystal materials and useful as a chemically stable material. n CONSTITUTION: A dichlorocyano compound of formula I[A 1 -A 3 are trans-1,4- cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene (capable of being substituted with one or more of halogen, methyl and nitrile groups); Y1, Y 2 are COO, O, OCO, CH 2 CH 2 , CH 2 , CH=CH, CH(CH)CH 2 , single bond, etc.; R is H, alkyl (capable of being substituted); m, n are 0, 1], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is produced, e.g. by reacting a compound of formula III with a chlorinating agent such as thionyl chloride and subsequently reacting the produced acid chloride of formula IV with 2,6-dichloro-4-hydroxybenzonitrile of formula V in the presence of pyridine. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
