titleOfInvention 4-alkylcyclohexenyltolan compound
abstract PURPOSE: To provide the title novel compound useful for enlarging the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) for liquid crystal materials by its incorporation in said materials. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula I (R is 1-12C alkyl or cycloalkyl; X is halogen or cyano; Y is H, halogen or cyano), for example, 4-fluoro-4'-propylcyclohexenyltolan. The compound can be obtained by the following steps: a reaction is made between a 4-substituted cyclohexanone of formula II and a compound formula III into a compound of formula IV, which is, in turn, reacted with 2-methy1-3-butyne-2-ol into a compound of formula V, which is then converted into a compound of formula VI followed by reaction of e.g. 1-bromo-4-fluorobenzene. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
