CONSTITUTION:The objective melanogenesis-inhibiting agent having high stability and useful for the preparation of cosmetics, etc., can be produced by culturing lichens preferably belonging to family Parmeliaceae, Usneaceae, Graphidaceae, Lecideaceae, Umbilicariaceae or Lecanoraceae, freeze-drying the cultured product and extracting with a polar solvent (preferably alcohol, ketone, ester, etc., especially alcohol) at a low temperature (0-15 deg.C).
