titleOfInvention Glycocinnamic acid derivative and ultraviolet light absorber
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a new glycocinnamic acid derivative, composed of glycosyloxycinnamic acid esters, excellent in chemical stability and water solubility, capable of efficiently absorbing ultraviolet rays within the UV-B region and useful as an ultraviolet ray absorber, etc., blended in coatings, etc. n CONSTITUTION: p-Hydroxycinnamic acid is dissolved in an HCl-methanol solution and refluxed while being heated for 1hr. Vacuum concentrating is then carried out to extract the reaction product with ethyl acetate and the resultant extract is dissolved in dibutyl Cellosolve. Pentaacetylglucose, etc., and molybdophosphoric acid are then added and reacted at 100°C for 30min while being heated and stirred. The reaction mixture is subsequently cooled to ambient temperature and extracted with toluene. The obtained extract solution is then concentrated and pyridine is added to remove the unreacted ester by silica gel chromatography. An acetylated derivative of the produced methyl p- glycosyloxycinnamate is treated with sodium methylate in methanol to afford the objective glycocinnamic acid derivative expressed by the formula (A is residue obtained by removing one hydroxyl group from sugar; R is 1-4C O- binding aliphatic chain). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
