titleOfInvention Production of dicarboxylic acid ester from butadiene, carbon monoxide and alcohol
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high yield by reacting butadiene with CO and an alcohol in the presence of cobalt-carbonyl and pyridine at two stages of different temperatures and adding paraffin to the resultant product and separating a catalyst complex. n CONSTITUTION: Butadiene is reacted with CO and alcohol (preferably ethanol) in the presence of cobalt carbonyl and pyridine, preferably 3,5-dimethylpyridine at 120°C to a temperature lower than 160°C to afford 3-pentenoic acid ester as the intermediate. Then reaction temperature is raised directly without separating the intermediate and a reaction is carried out at 160-200°C and paraffin is added to the resultant product to separate most of a pyridine complex which is a catalyst from a product layer and the separated pyridine complex is dissolved in acetone and recycled for next reaction. According to the above- mentioned method, troublesomeness of processes containing separation, recovery and regeneration of catalyst which was a defect of the conventional technique is remarkably reduced. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
