titleOfInvention Optical resin
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare an optical resin desirable in refractive index, color abberation, transparency, etc., excellent in resistance to heat, solvent, and impact, low in specific gravity, and easy to handle because of its low odor by polymerizing a polymerizable compsn. contg. a specific organosulfur compd. n CONSTITUTION: A polymerizable compsn. contg. a compd. of the formula (when (n) is 0, the compd. is p- or m-mercaptomethylstyrene; when (p) is 1 or higher, it is an adduct of p- or m-mercaptomethylstyrene: and (n) is pref-less than 40) is polymerized and thereby hardened to give an optical resin which has a refractive index of 1.55 or higher. a high Abbe's number, a low color abberation, a low optical strain, a high optical transparency, a low specific gravity, and an excellent resistance to heat, solvent, and impact. The compsn., emitting no characteristic odor of a sulfur compd. and being lowly viscous, easily be handled in molding and is useful as the material of an optical resin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
