abstract | PURPOSE: To easily obtain a high purity compd. useful as a synthesis intermediate of sulfonylurea as a herbicide with a high yield by allowing pyrimidine to react with propane diimidate and cyanamide at a pH in a wide range. n CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I (where each of R 1 and R 2 is a 1-4 C alkyl, a 1-4 C alkoxy, etc., and each of X and Y is O or S) is allowed to react with propane diimidate represented by formula II or its salt and cyanamide represented by the formula NH 2 -CN at pH 7-14 and -20 to +200°C in an inert solvent such as water-toluene in the presence of a base such as potassium hydrogencarbonate to obtain the objective aminopyrimidines.
