abstract PURPOSE: To provide a new patchouli oil containing a specific amount of patchouli alcohol, useful in perfumery industry, emitting strong earthy and woody fragrance having suppressed top note. n CONSTITUTION: The leaves and stalks of patchouli having a water-content of 40-90% (preferably 70-80%) is put into a distillation pot, distilled by blowing 5-20 times volume (based on the charged patchouli) of steam from the bottom of the distillation pot at a rate of 100-500l/hr under ordinary pressure, and separated into oil and water phases to easily and surely obtain the objective patchouli oil containing 35-70% patchouli alcohol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
