titleOfInvention | Production of flame resistant, highly heat resistant polyimide foam |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain flame resistant, highly heat resistant polyimide foam suitable for insulating walls, etc., of ships and submarines by reacting specified carboxylic dianhydride with di- or polyisocyanate in the presence of a reaction accelerator. n CONSTITUTION: (A) Benzophenone-3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride or pyromellitic acid dianhydride and (B) a di- or polyisocyanate consisting of methylenediphenyl 4,4'-diisocyanate, 2,4-,2,52,6-tolylene diisocyanate, and/or polymethylene-polyphenylene polyisocyanate of formula I (m is 0-4) are mixed homogeneously at room temperature in the presence of a reaction accelerator. Next, the mixture is reacted by being heated at 200-250°C for at least 5 min to obtain intended polyimide foam of formula II which, in a thermogravimetric analysis at a heating rate of 20 degrees per minute, has an overall weight loss up to 350°C of 3 wt.% or less and a maximum weight loss between 550°C and 650°C. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO |
