titleOfInvention Production of formed product of water absorbing hydrogel
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject formed product having a large amount of water absorption capacity and useful as sanitary products, etc., without scattering fine powder by polymerizing an aqueous solution containing a hydrophilic functional group- containing monomer, a crosslinking agent and a polymerization initiator in a flat polymerizer without stirring and then forming the produced hydrous polymer. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing (A) a polymerizable monomer (e.g. acrylic acid) having a hydrophilic functional group, (B) a crosslinking agent (e.g. N,N-methylenebisacrylamide) and (C) a polymerization initiator (e.g. azobisisobutyronitrile) is fed to a polymerizer capable of performing polymerization in a flat layer form and polymerized at a constant temperature of 20-95°C temperature during polymerization under conditions of no stirring to provide a hydrous polymer with 20-70wt.% moisture content. The resultant hydrous polymer is then formed into a desired shape such as a thin filmy or a sheetlike shape of 0.5-50mm thickness. Thereby, the objective formed product of the water absorbing hydrogel is obtained. Furthermore, the concentration in the aqueous solution is preferably 30-80wt.% and the component (B) is used in an amount of preferably 0.0001-5wt.% based on the component (A). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
