abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a low molecular weight PE with a high melt index by bringing the reaction product between an organomagnesium compound and alkoxysilane, after being contracted with a chlorinating reagent, into contacted with a liquid titanium halide. n CONSTITUTION: An organomagnesium compound of a formula MgR 2 (R is alkyl) is reacted with alkoxysilane of a formula R n Si(OR') 4-n (n is 0-3; R, R' are each an alkyl) to obtain a reaction product of 17-19 wt.% Mg content and of 1 wt.% or less Si content. The product is contacted with a chlorinating reagent making the mole ratio of the Mg compound to the chlorinating reagent (2:1)-(1:5) to obtain a solid carrier of a formula Mg(OR) 2-n Cl n (n is 0-2).
