abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a homogeneous bituminous composition suitable for use in roads, etc., by subjecting polymeric residues to be obtained from automotive wastes, etc., to a hydrolysis and/or alcoholysis treatment, and then, reacting the residues thus treated with molten bitumen and/or asphalt. n CONSTITUTION: Polymer residues containing polyurethanes, polyesters and/or polyepoxides are obtained by the method of cutting and crushing wastes of automotive bodies, etc., and then magnetically, etc., separating metallic materials. Subsequently, the polymeric residues are subjected to a hydrolysis and/or alcoholysis treatment in the presence of water, a reactant such as an alcohol and a catalyst such as sodium hydroxide. Then, the treated polymeric residues are reacted in an amount of 1-80 wt.% based on the final composition of molten bitumen and/or asphalt to obtain an improved composition of bitumen and/or asphalt containing polymeric residues. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO |
