abstract | PURPOSE: To provide a substituted 1-benzothiazolyl-3,4-dimethyl-3-pyrrolin-2,5-(1 H)-dione. n CONSTITUTION: A halobenzothiazole is reacted with an alkali metal alcoholate to form an alkoxy-, alkenyloxy-, or alkynyloxybenzothiazole, which is then nitrated with nitric acid. The nitrated product is reduced to form an aminobenzothiazole, and the product is treated with dimethylmaleic anhydride to form an imide, which is finally rearranged with a quaternary ammonium salt. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO |
