abstract | PURPOSE: To purify 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane. n CONSTITUTION: A process for the purification of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl) ethane by washing a crude mixture contaminated with impurities with a saturated solution of 1,1,1-tris(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethane in water and methanol; and isolating the washed crude mixture from the effluent and dissolving the washed crude mixture in methanol, and adding water and sodium borohydride to the dissolved, washed crude admixture to form a precipitate of 1,1,1-tris(4'- hydroxyphenyl)ethane, and filtering the precipitate to form purified target product and a filtrate is provided. Another embodiment of the invention provides iteratively repeating the process by washing an additional crude batch with the filtrate from a prior purification. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO |
