titleOfInvention Percutaneous delivery of ibuprofen using hydroalcoholic gel
abstract PURPOSE: To provide a method for locally delivering ibuprofen of medicine through skin in order to treat disease condition (inflammation and/or pain) of joint or parenchyma under skin. n CONSTITUTION: This method for delivering ibuprofen through the skin to topically treat inflammation or pain comprises using an ibuprofen-containing hydroalcoholic gel of pH3.5 to 6.0 for topically treating inflammation or pain comprising an effective amount of ibuprofen, 40-60% alcohol, e.g. ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, 0-20% of a nonvolatile solvent, e.g. propylene glycol, 2.0 to 5.0% gelling agents, e.g. 2.5% hydroxypropyl cellulose or 4.0% polyacrylic acid polymer, sufficient base, e.g. triethanolamine, to adjust the pH to between 3.5 and 6.0 and water. Use of substantially pure S-ibuprofen to topically treat such inflammation or pain is provided. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
