abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition giving a coated paper having good white gloss, printing gloss and printability by emulsion-polymerizing a mixture of a terpene polymer having a specific softening point and an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and using the obtained emulsion as a pigment binder. n CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is produced by emulsion-polymerizing a mixture of (A) 5-95wt.% of a terpene polymer having a softening point of 50-200°C and (B) 5-95wt.% of one or more radically polymerizable monomers such as ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid, alkyl (meth)acrylate (e.g. 2- ethylhexyl acrylate), ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid amide, unsaturated nitrile, aromatic vinyl compound, vinyl ester, aliphatic conjugated diene, etc., in the presence of an emulsifier and compounding the obtained emulsion as a pigment binder to a pigment (e.g. kaolin clay). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
