titleOfInvention Magnetic recording medium
abstract PURPOSE: To make it possible to obtain a magnetic recording medium being excellent in an electromagnetic conversion characteristic, durability and running properties by a method wherein iron carbide having spontaneous magnetization is made to be contained in a magnetic layer. n CONSTITUTION: Iron carbide from 1 to 5 pts.wt. for 100 pts.wt. of magnetic powder is made to be contained in a magnetic layer. It is preferable that the BET specific surface of the iron carbide to be used is in a range from 40 to 80m 2 /g, and the magnetic powder to be used may be any of metal powder of a magnetic iron oxide, a cobalt-containing magnetic iron oxide, a cobaltcoated magnetic iron oxide and a chromium oxide. Since the surface of the iron oxide has a solid lubrication action and the iron oxide has spontaneous magnetization, the running properties of a magnetic recording medium can be improved without lowering durability and magnetic characteristic, according to this constitution. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
