abstract PURPOSE: To enhance strength by firing a shaped body consisting of plural foamed ceramic layers of a specified thickness. n CONSTITUTION: Prescribed amts. of powder or particles of ceramic such as Al 2 O 3 , a foam regulating agent such as ammonium stearate, a binder such as methylcellulose and a dispersant such as ammonium polyacrylate are added to a solvent such as water and they are mixed to prepare a ceramic slurry. This slurry is foamed by mechanical stirring. An Al plate is coated with the foamed slurry having uniform foam diameter, the surface of the slurry is made smooth with a doctor blade and the slurry is dried to produce a foamed shaped body of ≤5mm thickness. The foamed slurry is spread on the shaped body and dried. These coating and drying processes are repeated several times and the resulting laminated shaped body is fired at a prescribed temp. to obtain a laminated ceramic porous body. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
