abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject copolymer having excellent transparency, heat- resistance, dimensional stability and rigidity and useful as an optical material, etc., by copolymerizing ethylene with a specific cycloolefin in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst composed of a soluble V compound and a halogen- containing organic Al compound. n CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer containing the constituent units of formula II and formula III at a molar ratio (II/III) of 90/10 to 10/90 and having an intrinsic viscosity [η] of 0.5-15dl/g measured in decalin at 135°C can be produced by copolymerizing ethylene with a cycloolefin of formula I (R 1 to R 3 are H or 1-6C alkyl; n is 0, 1 or 2) (e.g. 8-ethylidenetetracyclo[4,4,0,1 2 , 5 ,1 7 , 10 ]-3- dodecene) in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalyst composed of a halogen-containing organic aluminum compound and a vanadium compound soluble in the hydrocarbon. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
