titleOfInvention Production of catalyst for purification of exhaust gas
abstract PURPOSE: To produce a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas causing no deterioration of the catalytic performance and having superior durability by heating a metal carrier coated with activated alumina to ≥1,000°C and depositing a catalytic metal on the carrier by physical or chemical vapor deposition. n CONSTITUTION: A metal carrier coated with activated alumina as a substrate for vapor deposition is heated to ≥1,000°C above the service temp. of a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas from an automobile and a catalytic metal is deposited on the carrier by physical vapor deposition(PVD) or chemical vapor deposition(CVD). Even when the resulting catalyst for purification of exhaust gas from an automobile is used for a long time, the supported noble metal particles do not aggregate and sintering is prevented. Accordingly, the catalytic performance is not deteriorated and superior durability is ensured. PVD includes vacuum deposition, sputtering and ion plating. CVD includes thermo-CVD, photo- CVD and plasma CVD. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
