titleOfInvention Nonlinear optical material for laser and growth method thereof
abstract PURPOSE:To improve a wavelength conversion efficiency, by adding, an element to serve as an active material for a laser oscillation, to beta-barium borate single crystal. CONSTITUTION:A material of the composition of BaB2O4 including neodymium of about 1% is fired, and is filled into a platinum crucible. Then, a single crystal of Nd: beta-BaB2O4, which is about 10mm in its diameter and about 20 no in its length, is obtained by the growth using a high frequency furnace for Czochralski method. Then, this crystalline laser diode 6 is excited and the laser beam of about 1.06mum in its wavelength is oscillated. Further, to emit the laser beam of the second harmonic of 0.53mum in its wavelength, the crystal is cut in the direction at about 22 degrees to the C axis, and a laser rod 7 of about 5mm in its diameter and about 10mm in its length is formed. Moreover, on its incident end face for the LD beam, a total reflection coating for the laser beam of 0.53mum in its wavelength, and on its emitting end face for the LD beam, a total transmission coating for the laser beam of 0.53mum in its wavelength, and further, on both the end faces, the total reflection coatings for the laser beam of 1.06mum in its wavelength are performed respectively. Thereby, a resonator is assembled using the crystal. When the laser beam of 0.80mum in its wavelength accompanied by the absorption of Nd is projected on the laser rod 7 from the laser diode 6 via a focusing lens 8, a laser beam of 1.06mum in its wavelength is oscillated, and is resonated in the rod, and further, only a converted laser beam of 0.53mum in its wavelength is emitted.
