abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R 1 is H, acetyl; one of R 2 , R 3 is neuraminic acid residue of formula II (R 7 is R 1 ; R 8 is methyl, Na; Ac is acetyl) and the other is H, acetyl; R 4 is H, pivaloyl; R 5 is group of formula III, H; R 6 is H, ceramide group of formula IV (R 9 is H, benzoyl); but when R 5 is group of formula III, R 6 is H, When R 5 is H, R 6 is group of formula IV]. n USE: A cancer antigen useful for diagnosing and treating cancers. The compound of formula I has excellent stability. n PREPARATION: A raw material compound of formula V (Me is methyl) is successively reacted with methyl sulfonyl chloride, sodium azide and further a compound of formula VI (Bn is benzyl; Piv is pivaloyl).
