NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (R 1 is morpholino: R 2 is H). n USE: A synthetic intermediate for a new optically active metal coordination complex catalyst useful in catalytic hydrogenation of olefinic compounds. The catalyst is usable in an aqueous medium and are capable of performing asymmetric hydrogenations efficiently and rapidly. n PROCESS: CH 3 SO 2 Cl is reacted with a compound of formula II to form morpolinomethyl sulfonamide of formula III.
