titleOfInvention Production of aromatic polyester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject polymer excellent in heat resistance and mechanical characteristics by converting hydroxyl groups into lower aliphatic carboxylic acid esters, providing carboxyl groups and the hydroxyl groups in equimolar amounts and reacting the resultant ester with a specific component. n CONSTITUTION: Hydroxyl groups in (B) hydroquinone and (C) either one or more of an aromatic dihydroxy compound and an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid other than the component (B) are converted into lower aliphatic carboxylic acid esters. Carboxyl groups and the hydroxyl groups in the whole components of (A) isophthalic acid and components (B) and (C) are then mixed in equimolar amounts. (D) A catalyst such as antimony trioxide is added thereto and reacted at preferably 150-380°C to afford the objective polymer at (80/20) to (60/40) molar ratio of the components [(B)/(C)]. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
