titleOfInvention Method for distilling and purifying naphthol
abstract PURPOSE: To remove high-boiling substances as a still residue and purify crude naphthol by subjecting the crude naphthol obtained by a sulfonation and alkali fusion method of naphthalene to pitch removing distillation under conditions satisfying a specific relational expression between the column bottom temperature and the distillation time. n CONSTITUTION: Crude naphthol obtained by a sulfonation and alkali fusion method of naphthalene is purified by distillation. In the process, the crude naphthol is subjected to pitch removing distillation under conditions satisfying the formula [t is the column bottom temperature (°C); θ is the distillation time (min)] to remove substances having a higher boiling point than that of the naphthol as a still residue. Since the high-boiling substances are removed, the formation of thionaphthol due to decomposition of heavy substances in the pitch removing distillation is suppressed to ≤0.1% and the deterioration in yield is simultaneously suppressed. Thereby, the high-purity naphthol can be obtained in high yield. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
