titleOfInvention Novel aromatic dihydroxy compound
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (Ar is trivalent aromatic group; X 1 is hydrocarbon group having 2-3 ring-member carbon atoms forming an iminoether ring). n USE: Useful as a crosslinking agent for curable resin. The obtained cured resin has excellent transparency, heat-resistance, solvent resistance and mechanical properties and is useful as a matrix resin for composite material, an engineering plastic, etc. n PREPARATION: The objective compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II with 2-chloroethylamine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium hydroxide at -5 to +15°C, reacting the reaction product with potassium hydroxide by heating in ethanol to effect the cyclization and precipitating the objective compound with an acid. The compound of formula I reacts by itself to form a crosslinked resin by heating and the crosslinking can be carried out at a lower temperature and higher reaction rate by adding a catalyst such as protonic acid, its ester, Lewis acid, its complex, alkyl halide or I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
