abstract NEW MATERIAL: A parathyroid glands-derived hypertensive factor having the following characteristics: molecular weight of 3,000-4,000 deltons, a single peak by HPLC on a column of an octyl-binding silica gel, a single band by isoelectric electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gel and delayed blood pressure rise when administered to mammals with normal blood pressure via intravenous route. n USE: A diagnostic agent for identification of the cause in essential hypertension. n PROCESS: For example, plasma is collected from mammals (e.g. rat) with hypertension, or parathyroid glands of mammals are collected and cultivated. The culture liquid is collected, dialysed against distilled water to remove components with molecular weight of ≤1,000 daltons, and subjected to ultrafiltration to collect plasma components with a molecular weight of ≤5,000 daltons. The components are freeze-dried and chromatographed successively on a column of gel filtration and on a reversed phase column by HPLC to obtain a hypertensive factor derived from parathyroid glands. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
