abstract PURPOSE: To improve the display grade and resolving power of the color filter by combining an acid anhydride and multifunctional alicyclic epoxy compd. with a specific org. high-polymer compd. and maintaining the melt viscosity of the mixture to a prescribed value or below, thereby forming the surface protective material. n CONSTITUTION: The org. high-polymer compd. A which is acrylic acid or methacrylate, etc., and has the constitutional unit expressed by general formula (1), the arom. anhydride B, such as phthalic anhydride, and the multifunctional alicyclic epoxy compd. C having a cyclohexane oxide group are combined and the melt viscosity at 100 to 200°C in the case of mixing of the org. high-polymer compd. A and the multifunctional alicyclic epoxy compd. C is adjusted to ≤5000cps. In addition, the respective mixing weight ratios are set in a prescribed range. A coupling agent and UV absorbent, etc., are added at need to these components and the mixture is uniformly mixed in a solvent, such as ester. The mixture formed in such a manner is applied on the color filter and is subjected to a heating treatment. The coated film is flattened by melt flowing to form the necessary hardened film.
