| abstract | PURPOSE: To separate impurities efficiently by bringing a mixture of water/ ethanol/impurities and a solvent into contact with each other in counter-flow in an extracting tower, separating the mixture into a raffinate phase containing no impurity and a solvent phase containing impurities, and leading the solvent phase to a solvent separating tower. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture prepared by fermentation or chemical synthesis and consisting of water, ethanol, and impurities and a solvent of solely propane, propylene, n-butane, isobutane or their compounds are brought into contact with each other in counter-flow in an extracting tower 1. Then, the mixture is separated into a raffinate phase containing no impurity practically and consisting of water, ethanol and the solvent and a solvent phase containing the impurities. The solvent phase is led to a solvent separating tower 12 to be separated into the solvent and ethanol/impurities and water is added to the ethanol/impurities mixture phase to separate the mixture into a water phase consisting of water and ethanol and an organic phase consisting of impurities and the water phase is re-circulated to the upper part of the extracting tower 1.
