titleOfInvention Fractionation of eicosatetraenoic acid and alcohol ester thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency of fractionation by separating a fatty acid alcohol ester mixture from a compsn. comprising fatty acid alcohol esters and glycerin, isolating a highly unsatd. fatty acid alcohol ester mixture therefrom, and fractionating the mixture by liq. chromatography. n CONSTITUTION: A vegetable fatty oil is transesterified with a lower alcohol in the presence of an alkali or an acid to obtain a composition comprising a fatty acid alcohol ester mixture and glycerin. Then, 5-8 pts.wt. urea and 5-20 pts.wt. org. solvent are added to 1 pt.wt. the compsn. The whole mixture is made into a uniform soln. and allowed to stand for 1-25hr at 4-25°C to precipitate urea adducts of satd. fatty acid alcohol esters and unsatd. (degree of unsaturation up to 3) fatty acid alcohol esters. Stripping of the solvent from the filtrate gives a concentrate contg. a highly unsatd. fatty acid alcohol ester mixture, which is extracted with a nonaqueous org. solvent and water. Fractionation of the org. layer by liq. chromatography gives a product contg. eicosatetraenoic acid alcohol ester at a high concn. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
