abstract NEW MATERIAL: A compd. having a structure of the formula, (where B is pyrimidine base or purine base; R is a group having coloring, fluorescent, luminescent or radioactive properties, a reporter group functioning as a ligand recognition group or a linker arm; R 8 is H or OH; one of R 4 and R 5 is H or a reactive P-contg. group, while the other is a masking group). n EXAMPLE: 5-(3-Trifluoroacetylaminopropenyl)-2'-deoxyuridine. n USE: As an intermediate for chemical synthesis of single chain oligonucleotide. n PROCESS: The compd. of the formula is obtd. by suspending 5-chloromercury-2'- deoxyuridine in methanol, adding N-allyltrifluoroacetamide to it, adding a Li tetrachloro Pd acid salt to it, allowing them to react one another at room temp., removing black solid Pd from the reaction product, treating the product with sodium borohydride, decompression-concentrating it and purifying the residue with a column chromatography. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
