NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R 1 is lower alkyl; R 2 is H or lower alkyl; n is 1 or 2; A is N or CH). n EXAMPLE: 2-(4-Chlorobenzyl)-7-ethyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-1-cycloheptanol. n USE: A low toxic agricultural or horticultural antimicrobial agent exhibiting excellent controlling activity against broad plant diseases and having high safety on the handling thereof. n PREPARATION: A new compound of formula V prepared from 1-(4- chlorobenzyl)-2-oxocycloalkanecarboxylic acid alkyl ester through a new compound of formula II or new compounds of formulas III and IV is subjected to an oxirane reaction using a sulfonium methylide or sulfoxonium methylide, or a new compound of formula VI prepared form the new compound of formula V by a Witting reaction is epoxidized to prepare a new compound of formula VII.
