abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a catalyst having a high catalytic activity and suitable for producing an ethylene polymer having a narrow mol.wt. distribution and high flowability by compounding a specific solid catalyst component contg. trivalent titanium with an organoaluminum compd. n CONSTITUTION: A titanium compd. of formula I (wherein R 1 is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; X is a halogen atom; and 0<a≤4) is reduced with an organomagnesium compd. in the presence of an organosilicon compd. having an Si-O bond and an org. porous polymer to give a solid product, which is treated with an ester compd. and then reacted with titanium tetrachloride or a mixture thereof with an electron-donating compd., thereby giving a solid catalyst component contg. trivalent titanium and shown by formula II.
