titleOfInvention Process for producing charge of solid composition generating nontoxic gas
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a charge for a nontoxic gas generator having excellent mechanical characteristics, durability, etc., by mixing the azide of an alkaline (earth) metal, molybdenum sulfide and sulfur and compression molding the mixture, then subjecting the mixture to a heat treatment at a regulated time and temp. n CONSTITUTION: A solid compsn. which generates nontoxic gases is produced by mixing (A) the azide (e.g. sodium azide) of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, (B) the metal sulfide selected from molybdenum sulfide and mixed molybdenum and (C) the sulfur. Next, this solid compsn. is compression molded and the molding is heated for at least 5 minutes at 120°C, by which the charge for the gas generator generating the nontoxic gases is produced. When this charge is loaded in the gas generator and is mounted at, for example, an automobile, the gases are generated in the event of a collision to expand a cushion, thereby providing the action of protecting a passenger. The deterioration of the performance of the charge does not arise even if the charge is mounted at the automobile and vibration, etc., are applied thereon for a long time. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
