abstract PURPOSE: To improve the polymer yield per solid catalyst component, and per transition metal and the bulk density of the produced polymer by (co) polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst compsn. comprising a specific solid catalyst component and an organometallic compd. n CONSTITUTION: Silicon and/or aluminum oxide is reacted with a titanium compd. and, if necessary, with a vanadium compd., and the reaction product is reacted with an organoaluminum compd. to give a product (A). Separately, magnesium halide is reacted with a compd. of formula I (wherein Me is an element of the group I-IV; Z is the valence of Me; 0≤n≤Z; X is halogen; and R is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group) to give a compd. (B). The compd. A is reacted with the compd. B, and then with a compd. of formula II (wherein 0≤m≤4) to produce a solid catalyst component.
