abstract PURPOSE: To perform high density recording at a high speed and to rapidly form a color at low temp. by preparing a specific fluoran compound by reacting a specific benzoic acid derivative with a specific diphenylamine derivative. n CONSTITUTION: A fluoran compound is represented by formula (I) and prepared by reacting a benzoic acid derivative represented by formula (II) with a diphenylamino derivative represented by general formula (III) (wherein R is a lower alkyl group). The compound represented by the formula (II) can be representatively prepared by reacting 3-N,N-diallylaminophenol and phthalic anhydride in a solventless state or in a solvent such as benzene, toluene, xylene or tetrachloroethylene.
