titleOfInvention Production of branched polycarbonate
abstract PURPOSE: To enhance melt strength and shearing receptivity and to enable blow molding by adding two kinds of specific structural units and a hydroxyl terminal group. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture (i) of aromatic cyclic polycarbonate oligomers and polyhydric phenol (ii) having two or more hydroxyl groups in its molecule are brought into contact with each other in the presence of a carbonate equilibrating catalyst (iii) at 200-350°C by a melt equilibrating process to obtain branched chain polycarbonate containing a structural unit represented by formula I (wherein a is 20-100, R is 60% or more of the total number of an aromatic org. group and the remainder of aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic groups, Y 1 is O or S, A is H or an aromatic group and 1 or more is H), 0.1-2.0 mol.% based on the mol number of R of a structural unit represented by formula II (wherein R 1 is H, lower alkyl, an aromatic group or a group represented by formula III) and 0.3-6.0 mol.% based on the mol number of R of a hydroxyl terminal group and characterized by that MI is 2.0 or more, a complex viscosity ratio is 3.0 or more, a number average mol.wt. (PS conversion, gel permeation chromatography) is 5,000-40,000, intrinsic viscosity (1.0, 0.5, 33% soln. in chloroform, 25°C) is 0.40-0.60 and melt viscosity (300°C) is 4,000-15,000 cm sec. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
