abstract PURPOSE: To obtain 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane by treating 1,1,1-trichloroethane with HF to obtain a 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane-containing stream, splitting this stream into 2 streams and treating one of the streams with HF. n CONSTITUTION: 1,1,1-trichloroethane (140a) and HF are introduced into a reaction apparatus 10 and reacted to obtain a product stream containing 1,1-dichloro-1- fluoroethane (141b), unreacted HF and 140a. This stream is supplied to a flash drum 14 and HCl is removed and then, the stream is split into two streams and one of the streams is sent to a 141b recovery system through a pipe 20 while the other is sent to a second reaction apparatus 22 to form 1-chloro-1,1- difluoroethane (142b). In the 141b recovery system, an HF rich upper phase (to be recycled as an HF source and a 141b rich lower phase are separated by a phase separator 26 to obtain 141b. In the 142b recovery system, the stream is passed through an HCl stripper column 18, then combined with a column top effluent from a right-end column 30 and sent to a phase separator 42 to obtain 142b. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
