titleOfInvention Heterocyclic thione
abstract NEW MATERIAL: A heterocyclic thione of the formula [wherein X is C and Y is N-R; or X is N and Y is C-R, N, N-R, O or S; R is independently H or a substituent which does not obstruct stripping or extraction; and A is a monocyclic or bicyclic system including -X(OH)-CS-Y and containing one or more aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups having 6-40 carbon atoms in total]. n EXAMPLE: 1-(4-Dodecylbenzyl)-3-hydroxypyridine-2-thione. n USE: Useful as an extracting agent. The compound posseses capabilities to form a complex selectively with a group III metal, for example, and this permits the metal soluble in a nonpolar solvent, an aliphatic hydrocarbon in particular. Thus the compound is effective for extracting a wide range of metals from an aqueous solution. n PREPARATION: The compound is obtained from substances containing a mixture of lipophilic compounds such as a mixture of aliphatic alcohols having various alkyl chains. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
