titleOfInvention Production of methyl methacrylate
abstract PURPOSE: To advantageously obtain the title compound by synthesizing acetone cyanhydrin from acetone and prussic acid, hydrating, reacting the resulting substance with methyl formate, etc., and dehydrating and decomposing formaldehyde from the above-mentioned process into ammonia and carbon monoxide. n CONSTITUTION: (i) Acetone cyanhydrin(ACH) is synthesized from acetone and prussic acid and (ii) acetone cyanhydrin is hydrated to synthesize α- hydroxyisobutyric acid amide (HBD). (iii) Then HBD is reacted with methyl formate or CR 3 OH and CO to synthesize methyl α-hydroxyisobutyrate (HBM) and formamide (FD) and (iv) HBM is dehydrated to give methyl methacrylate (MMA). (v) Further FD prepared by the process (iii) is decomposed into NH 3 and CO, recovered, converted into prussic acid and methyl formate, respectively, and recycled through the process (i) and the process (iii) to give MMA useful for various polymer raw materials from the above-mentioned raw materials in high yield without preparing acidic ammonium sulfate to cause problem at all. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
