titleOfInvention Chemical sensor for measuring partial pressure of gas
abstract PURPOSE: To secure a sensor characteristic being stable through the use for a long period by gelling an internal liquid to be sealed inside a pH glass electrode and by providing an air layer in a part of the gelled internal liquid of the pH glass electrode which is not in contact with a pH-sensitive glass membrane. n CONSTITUTION: A PCO 2 electrode for measuring a partial pressure of a carbonic acid gas in the blood is constructed of a PCO 2 selective permeation membrane 1, a spacer 2, an electrolyte 3 constituted of an NaHCO 3 water solution, a pH glass electrode 4 having a pH-sensitive glass element about 0.3 mm thick in the fore end, a gelled internal liquid 5 of the pH glass electrode, an air layer 6, an Ag/AgCl electrode 7 serving as an opposite electrode, an internal electrode 8 for the pH glass electrode, and an electrode jacket 9 and an O-ring 10 for retaining the pH glass electrode, the electrolyte and the PCO 2 permeation membrane. By this construction, a sensor characteristic being stable through the use for a long period without supplementing the internal liquid of the electrode periodically and without sustaining impediment to or breakdown of the sensor characteristic due to a change in a pressure in relation to a change in temperature, can be secured. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
