PURPOSE: To obtain a water-soluble copolymer that is novel, can retain an excellent fluidizing effect for a long period of time, and is useful for fluidizing a fluid mortar and as a water diluent by radical-copolymerizing a maleic acid adduct having a specified structure and a monomer having a specific structure. n CONSTITUTION: A monomer of formula I or II in an amount of 0 to 60 mol% (wherein R 1 and R 2 represent each a 1-20C alkyl residue, R represents a 2-4C alkylene, R' represents H or a 1-4C alkyl, and (a) is 1 to 100) and 40 to 60 mol% of monomer of formula III (wherein R 3 and R 4 represent each H, a phenyl residue, or the like; R 5 and R 6 represent each a 1-12C alkyl residue, a phenyl residue, or the like; and X represents H, a carboxylic acid group, or the like) with the sum of the amounts of the monomers being 100% are radical- copolymerized in a solvent at 5 to 100°C in the presence of a polymerization catalyst and a chain length controller to obtain the objective polymer made up of units of formula IV and/or V and VI (where (p), (q), and (r) are each an integer). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO |
