titleOfInvention Input/output controller
abstract PURPOSE: To minimize the wasteful downtime of a system by calculating the transfer time from a data transfer speed with an input/output device and a data transfer length to be indicated and reporting a transfer abnormality when a data transfer is not completed in a predicted time. n CONSTITUTION: When a data transfer instruction is received from a central processing unit 1, a main control circuit 3 sets the data length to a length setting circuit 5. To a transfer speed setting circuit 7, the data transfer speed with an input/output device 8 is set beforehand, a transfer time recognizing circuit 6 fetches the transfer time per one byte from the transfer speed setting circuit 7, the transfer time of all data is recognized, simultaneously, a supervisory timer is operated, and when the recognized time passes, the fact is reported to the main control circuit 3. When the data transfer is not completed at the time of receiving the report, the main control circuit 3 reports the data transfer abnormality to the central processing unit 1 in considering the fact that the abnormality of a data transfer system is generated. Thus, the wasteful downtime of the system can be minimized. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
